The View- Whoopi's thoughts on Mel Gibson

You know, normally I really enjoy Whoopi. I think she's a cool, avant garde kind of person but this here? I just can't wrap my head around it.

I'm definately with Joy Behar on this one. I'm surprised that dumb bitch Elisabeth Hassleback wasnt finding some way to defend Mel. She's just as racist as he is.

What are your thoughts?

Obviously Whoopi isn't defending Mel Gibson. She flat out said he was an asshole [without saying it because of censorship]. I think she's just stating what she's seen from him first hand, in her own home, interacting with her own children. I don't think she's saying because he was friendly with her and her children that he isn't racist, but simply putting another opinion out there from a source OTHER THAN the media, since basically everyone has immediately jumped on the 'Mel Gibson's a racist asshole' train.

As for the alcohol bit? I don't agree with that AT ALL. I've seen drunks first hand, and everything they say, whether cruel or outrageous, always has SOME kind of truth to it.

So while I respect Whoopi for her opinion and speaking her mind about the situation [which a lot of people could start disliking her for because of what she said], I still firmly believe that Mel Gibson is a racist prick who needs a lot of medication, a padded room, and a muzzle.

Yeah i get that. She has had a LONG personal friendship with him and so she knows him first hand. She's saying from HER experience and "view" of him, he's not a racist BUT then I find myself thinking....just because YOU dont see/experience it, doesnt mean it isnt so. Like the wife of a serial rapist denying something is wrong because he doesnt "bring it to her" or the cops who (before laws changed) would show up to domestic violence situations and say "well i didnt see him hit her so it must not have happened" even though she's laying on the floor battered and bruised.

I still love and respect Whoopi, BUT i just find it hard to believe that a woman as intelligent as she is could not see the severity of his actions and choice of words and that he's RACIST. He's said things against jews and now blacks and this is the first WE THE PUBLIC have heard it. no telling what else has been said BEFORE.

I like Elisabeth! She's the only one with a back bone and an original thought on that show.
As for Whoopi, she's just sharing her personal experiences. I'm beginning to think something may be clinically wrong with Mel.
