Republican Attacks Have Racist Undertones - NYTimes.com (http://loyalopposition.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/03/nobody-likes-to-talk-about-it-but-its-there/)
-----------------
You can detect this undertone in the level of disrespect for this president that would be unthinkable were he not an African-American. Some earlier examples include: Rep. Joe Wilson shouting “you lie” at one of Mr. Obama’s first appearances before Congress, and House Speaker John Boehner rejecting Mr. Obama’s request to speak to a joint session of Congress—the first such denial in the history of our republic.
I've been saying this to ppl for the last couple years now & they can't stand it. There's a difference between taking issue w/ Pres. Obama's policies & the utter vitriol & scrutiny HE & his family have been getting b/c of his RACE which is the root & motivation of MANY of the attacks on him...not to mention the DISRESEPCT.
Why can't ppl just be HONEST about it? That's the only way anything could possibly begin to change & go in another direction.

Why can't people realize that not EVERYTHING in the world is about race? No one gave a crap when Bush was disrespected and ridiculed, or when he was condemned so harshly for his vacations. But do it to Obama and suddenly the entire country is racist. That is just not true. If it was, he wouldn't have been elected.
Obama should not be above scrutiny just because of his race.
Change is always going to be held back as long as race is used as an excuse and as long as reverse racism occurs. He's done a bad job - maybe THAT'S why he's having problems. Not being a fan of the President (though I once was) does NOT make me a racist and I'm really tired of hearing that it does. I don't give a shit if he's PURPLE - he didn't come through on any of the promises he made during his campaign and I have a right to be pissed about that.
Bush was made a mockery of for eight years - Obama has come through the last four relatively unscathed. If he wants people to support him more he's got to do better.

who said anything like that? I certainly didn't.
I express my problems w/ his policies & decisions all the time BUT I don't call for his assassination, call his children MONKEYS, call HIM or his wife the N word, these emails being sent out about the whitehouse having a WATERMELON patch now that the obama's are in residence....
We NEVER saw this level of disrespect for Bush or his wife. NEVER.
You're gonna sit there & tell me the things I just mentioned above are NOT about race? c'mon girl! we BOTH know better than that!
all this "birther" bullshit? (started by a woman who HERSELF wasnt even a natural born citizen of this country) & If you're gonna scrutinize someone for their vacations...fine. but lets be honest. ALL of congress should be held to task to for that, not just Obama. They ALL get plum perks they don't deserve while seeking to take away what LITTLE public sector workers & others get.

BUT I don't call for his assassination, call his children MONKEYS, call HIM or his wife the N word etc.
I'm sure plenty of threats were made against Bush's life. It's terrible that some people are racist and say horrible things like that, but it doesn't describe the entire country or the entire party even and it's ridiculous to make blanket statements like that. Attack specific individuals for specific actions. There are lunatics everywhere, for every "cause" out there - Obama isn't special.
We NEVER saw this level of disrespect for Bush or his wife. NEVER
The hell we didn't.

No one EVER spoke about Bush's wife in the manner that Michelle Obama has been spoken about. EVER.
No one ever spoke about killing Bush or took guns to his speeches.
Most white supremacist sites crashed the day after Obama was elected due to people inquiring about joining.
I have no issue with people not believing as he does or not liking the job he has done. But the monkey pics and the pimp speech and calling Michelle Obama his "baby mama" is bullshit, and RACIST.
We cannot get past race in this country because there are a LOT of racist people. People talk about the 60s like it ended there. It did not. You don't change hearts in a decade. And the children of segregation among whites make up the ruling class of this country today. Those 50 -75 year olds that voted in lower numbers for Obama than anyone and then became the Tea Party and the Birthers.

that's right. Hillary Clinton & even an adolescent Chelsea were dogged out during Bill's first four years of president but NOTHING on the scope of what's being said about Michelle Obama & the children. NOTHING. Laura Bush was NEVER spoken of in this way. She was seen as educated (she's got a degree & was a teacher) & a SAINT for being so longsuffering & married to that MORON Bush. You NEVER saw shit about her in the media & the coverage on her DAUGHTERS? well they put themselves out there being the drunk party girls they were. The obama kids are barely adolescents & yet their being called MONKEYS & calls for their assassination!? wtf?
No one ever spoke about killing Bush or took guns to his speeches.
anybody who showed up @ bush's speeches even wearing a SHIRT or carrying a SIGN of protest was confronted by secret service & REMOVED. remember when he had those 7 librairians removed? & they werent doing anything but sitting there in SILENT protest! meanwhile, Palin & Beck ENCOURAGED ppl to "get their guns out of the closet, clean them & load them & take them to Obama speeches!"
Most white supremacist sites crashed the day after Obama was elected due to people inquiring about joining.
the FBI & US justice department reported in 2009 & 200% SPIKE in white supremecist activity in the form of websites crashing, membership of white supremecist militias swelling etc & it was prooven to be a direct result of Obama winning the election!
I have no issue with people not believing as he does or not liking the job he has done. But the monkey pics and the pimp speech and calling Michelle Obama his "baby mama" is bullshit, and RACIST.
like i said, you've ALL seen me take issue w/ several of his policies & descisions but that's a FAR cry from what MANY ppl (who almost ALWAYS are republican & are led by the example set by the republican/tea party controlled CONGRESS ) are doing/saying.
We cannot get past race in this country because there are a LOT of racist people. People talk about the 60s like it ended there. It did not. You don't change hearts in a decade. And the children of segregation among whites make up the ruling class of this country today. it goes WAY further back than that. even after slavery was abolished (& that was for a war strategy move & NOT for the specific purpose of "doing RIGHT" as many ppl would like to believe) Jim Crow & more things existed b/c it was felt by many ppl that "negroes" simply were inferior & should not be treated as anything BUT. if they couldnt be OWNED as property than they should be rendered outcasts w/ no rights & if that didnt work...then KILL them.
Racism is alive & well & there's no "getting past it" until EVERYONE gets real about it & acknowledges the history & seeks to do things differently in the present & future.
