The History of Sex

I'm watching a documentary called The History of Sex on the History Channel. Man, it would have sucked to live in Victorian England.

In a number of ways. For example, a "good" Victorian wife wasn't supposed to enjoy sex and it was recommended that sex should be limited to twice a year. Also there were horrible contraptions designed to prohibit sex. One was a sort of collar with inward facing spikes meant to be worn around a man's penis for the purpose of prohibiting masturbation or even nocturnal erections. Since sex was never talked about, men and women would often have no idea how sex even worked!

That's interesting. I always kind of wonder about times past that give the impression of such sexual repression - like was it really that way or was it just a facade.
