ABC Casts The Ten Commandments

ABC and producer Robert Halmi Sr. have cast Dougray Scott (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9531#), Omar Sharif, Naveen Andrews, Mia Maestro and Linus Roache in The Ten Commandments, a big-budget four-hour miniseries that retells the classic biblical tale of Moses, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Production on the Hallmark Entertainment special effects extravaganza, whose budget is estimated at more than $20 million, is slated to begin May 23 in Ouarzazate, Morocco. The premiere of the two-part epic, written by Ron Hutchinson after months of biblical and historical research, is targeted for next season.

Robert Dornhelm is directing the project, which will present the story of Moses and the Israelites' exodus from Egypt in 13th century B.C.

Scott will portray Moses while the Oscar-nominated Sharif (Lawrence of Arabia) is on board to play Jethro. Lost co-star Andrews will portray Menerith, Roache (The Chronicles of Riddick (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9531#)) will play Aaron, while Maestro (Alias (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9531#)) is set as Zipporah.

The Ten Commandments follows the dramatic story of Moses from his narrow escape from death as a child to his noble feat of freeing the Israelites to his great miracle of parting of the Red Sea.

ABC continues to plan large events to follow up on there recent success. The latest will be an international cast led by Dougray Scott (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#), Omar Sharif, Naveen Andrews, Mia Maestro and Linus Roache for "The Ten Commandments," a big-budget four-hour miniseries that retells the classic biblical tale of Moses according to The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/television/brief_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000913313).

English actor (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#) Scott is best known for his roles in the likes of the second "Mission: Impossible (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#)" and "Enigma", he will portray Moses. Sharif has been a legendary screen presence for five decades now and was last seen opposite Viggo Mortensen in the Arabian horse flick "Hidalgo".

Linus Roache, who made a name for himself with the controversial "Priest" over a decade ago, has come back of late with roles in the likes of "The Forgotten (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#)" and the upcoming "Batman (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#) Begins". Naveen Andrews and Mia Maestro are well known to ABC watchers. Sayid stars as the former Iraqi Republican guard officer Sayid on "Lost", Maestro plays spy and Sydney Bristow's Argentinian spy sister Nadia Derevko on "Alias (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050510f.php#)".
