Favorite daytime soap & soap actor/actress

Tell us what you're favorite DAYTIME soap opera is and why, also share with us your absolute favorite soap star(s) and why he/she is your favorite.

For me, even though my baby sitters introduced me to a variety of soaps as a child, I gravitated toward the CBS soaps, particular from the Bell family a.k.a The Young & The Restless and especially The Bold & The Beautifull. they are sister soaps.

I was 10 years old when B&B debuted and i remember how the theme song just rocked to me and being that the show was centered around fashion and glamor I was all in. B&B is the 2nd most watched soap on daytime tv, 2nd in the ratings only to Y&R.

my absolute FAVORITE daytime soap actress is the late, great DARLENE CONLEY (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darlene_Conley)b.k.a "Sally Spectra" from the Bold & the Beautifull. She joined the show a year after its debut and reigned as the matriarch of the Forrester's arch rival family/fashion house, The Spectras. Darlene Conley was a fabulous actress and Sally Spectra just jumped out of the screen at me (and many many other fans). She's the ONLY soap actress whose character was immortalized in Madame Teussaud's HOUSE OF WAX in Vegas as well as Amsterdam. She's also a two time Emmy nominee.

Her passing in 2007 was another sad loss for me as a fan. :( B&B has NOT been the same without her or the Spectra family. It's interesting though that they kept Sally Spectra alive on the show, she's off enjoying life in the Canary Islands, having fun with her cabanna boys. She was last heard from via telephone by Stephanie Forrester on the show in 2009.

Three other soap actresses that i TOTALLY enjoy are (of course) Susan Lucci bka Erika Kane of All my children; Kimberlin Brown bka Sheila Carter (Daytime's answer to Melrose Place's KIMBERLY SHAW) who crossed over between Y&R and B&B & Victoria Rowell bka Drucilla Winters of The Young & The Restless.

I started out as a child watching Guiding Light, then General Hospital, then One Life to Live, Another World, and back to General Hospital. I dabbled in As the World Turns and watched Y&R and B&TB for a summer when the ladies in the office I worked in watched it at lunchtime.

My all time favorite soap, however, has to be Santa Barbara. What fantastic characters. My favorite being the short-lived Flame Beaufort/Debra London played by Roberta Weiss. The ultimate misunderstood bad girl with a secret identity lol

Honorable mentions go to Edie Lehman (Katherine on GH), Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, GH), Jessica Tuck (Megan Gordon, OLTL - anyone remember the fake soap opera awards they had on the show, complete with musical numbers?), and Roger Howarth (Todd Manning, OLTL).

My all time favorite soap is General Hospital. When I was younger I used to also really enjoy All My Children and One Life to Live, but over the past few years I lost interest in them. Though I sometimes watch when my mom does, just to see what's happening. And lately i've actually jumped the ABC ship and started watching Guiding Light because Sarah Brown [who played the original Carly on GH and later Claudia] and Rick Hearst [who played Ric on GH] are on it. It's definitely not my favorite soap by any stretch of the imagination, but I usually just fast forward through most of it and stop when they're on. :) lol

As for actors/actresses, I adore Nancy Lee Grahn [Alexis Davis on GH]. She is an absolutely amazing actress, and she actually won an Emmy when she was on Santa Barbara. ;) I also really love Sarah Brown, Rick Hearst, Robin Christopher [Skye on AMC/OLTL/GH], and when I was younger, I LOVED Josh Duhmel [Leo on AMC]. He and Greenlee were my favorites on AMC. :p

My show was almost always All My Children. Although, my mom has been watching The Young and the Restless for years. So I know all the players on that show as well.

Most favourite actress? Eden Riegel aka "Bianca Montgomery". I fell in love with her and the character. She was awesome. Running a close second would be Sharon Case aka "Sharon Newman".

Back story on Sharon: when I was a kid, I would sort-of-but-not-really watch Y&R with my mom and I was hooked on the love story of Nick and Sharon [when Sharon and Nick were going to get married after Nick got out of prison and Nikki was less than impressed]. I was enthralled with Nick, Sharon, and little Cassie for years. I would always ask my mom how they were doing. LOL!

And then they decided to kill off Cassie. :mad3:

And that led to the downfall of Sharon and Nick and now I can't stand either of them. I'm mad at the writers for making me not like them. :(

I could give you a whole list of actresses and actors that I really love because at one point of another, I have watched all of the soaps. For reals.

Does anybody remember Port Charles? I loved that show. Lucy, Alison, and Livvie were probably my three fave females. Kevin, Jack, Caleb, and Chris(?) were my fave males.

I watched Guiding Light for a bit and fell hard for the person who played Cassie...who is now playing Carly on GH. Of course I'm talking about the beautiful and talented Laura Wright. LW is doing an amazing job of Carly and I can't understand why I stopped watching it! Speaking of Carly, I was convinced that nobody would ever play Carly as well as Tamara Braun but Laura proved me wrong.

As the World Turns? Off and on. I am a CarJacker through and through. ;)

DOOL I have watched. B&B I have watched. I watched OLTL a lot with my nana growing up.

It sucks because it seems that they're getting rid of the ABC soaps one by one. :cry:
