So did anyone else watch the Grammy's lastnight? I thought the performances overall were really good. My absolute favorite was Pink's! It was soooo beautiful, and the fact that she can still sing good live while being upside down in the air is amazing LOL. I also really liked Lady Gaga's opening performance with Elton John, the tribute to Michael Jackson, and Drake/Lil Wayne/Eminem. Those were my favs. Beyonce's was really good too, except her hair flipping was getting on my nerves lol. :p

And i'm super excited Kings of Leon won for best record of the year for Use Somebody. :D Yay!!

What was at FIRST supposed to be a show all about Lady Gaga vs. Beyonce was upstaged by a little twig named Taylor Swift. ENOUGH of her already. If RECORD SALES determine an artists' TALENT then that must mean Soulja Boy Tell Em is "relevant" and we all missed the memo.

The MJ tribute was amazing, loved it! Pink's performance was beautifull...fluid art!

The result last night showed that Kanye West was inappropriate in how he went about it but in the end he was RIGHT. A totally undeserving country-inspired waif trumped two much more deserving offerings in Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles on the wings of the very real fact that while people were open-minded to her music many of her own fans are quite close-minded to Beyonce and LG. That fact was not referenced in the decision to have her win IMO.

Okay, everyone here KNOWS I love my girl Beyonce, but I mean I really have to give Taylor Swift some credit here. I know that she might not be on the radar for alot of the people that come to this board, but I feel like her relevance in the music world is STAGGERING. To say she got all of her fame from Kanye West being a douchebag is discrediting alot of the accolades she received during the year PRE the VMAs. She was WELL established on the music charts before the VMAs.

She's a country star at heart, but many of her singles off of this album have crossed over to the mainstream pop charts, where OBVIOUSLY people like and support her by buying her albums and such. I really don't think people started buying Taylor Swift albums because Kanye West was mean to her? That makes no SENSE! If you don't like that kind of music BEFORE why would you buy it after, in this economy, just to SPITE Kanye West?

The only person to give her ANY competition this year was Michael Jackson's #1's album which surged to the top of the charts again after his death, and even then after the numbers were polled, she came out on top.

We are talking about "relevance" here right? Than what is the definition of relevant? Because I see a girl who has written a BUNCH of tracks that are far more reaching to at least the American Public than say Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Both of those women are ARTISTS, i'll give them that. They both put out AWESOME albums this year, but in terms of mass appeal, I think Taylor Swift is someone Mom's will let their daughters listen to, look up to, etc. She reaches a market that Beyonce and Lady Gaga don't, but she also puts herself in the same territory as them with her crossover pop hits. I mean just look at this girl's STATS this year, I think they are pretty incredible.

She's super young and maybe she DIDN'T deserve the award, but I mean I really think you have to give credit where credit is due. She is a young YOUNG girl who writes all of her own songs, and she has accomplished more than some artists DOUBLE her age. At the end of the day it really just comes down to personal taste because I had some friends who were like "TAYLOR SWIFT OVER DAVE MATTHEWS BAND!?!" and I hate DMB. I think they shouldn't be allowed to perform EVER, the fact that they were even nominated makes me want to vomit, I mean I was rooting for Beyonce, I think she had a GREAT album this year, though I thought her album last year was better, and Lady Gaga had an EXCELLENT album as well. Either way, i'm happy with who won.

and again, sales do NOT equal talent. why is it that Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and other TRUE Country artists have made quite clear their UNIMPRESSED feelings about this little girl? So she writes!? So does Lady Gaga, and she's penned massive hits for other artists including Britney BEFORE she blew up on her own.

she charted so well and so often because she moved units but then again so did Souljah Boy (or whatever his name is) with "Superman". I dont think anyone is going to dare suggest HE is "relevant" because he sold.

and regardless if Taylor managed to outsell a COMPILATION disc of Michael Jackson's...she'll NEVER...EVER be what he was/is....EVER! She'll NEVER come close to even touching the sales of his "Thriller" record which still holds the title of highest selling album of all time. BETTER than her have come close (including Celine, Elvis, Madonna even the Eagles LOL). So the fact that she managed to out sell a compilation disc of MJ's that was already several years old is not that impressive compared to the fact that that disc was over 5 years old and SURGED BACK to the top of the charts after MJ's death.

Their have been BETTER "cross over" artists than her, and even though country isnt my genre, even *I* know a real country singer from this ...girl. Women in the industry who paid their dues even say that Taylors "run away success" is UNDESERVED. You gonna argue with the likes of Dolly or Loretta Lynn? LOL

And I find it laughable that you have such a problem with Taylor Swift yet LADY GAGA is above reproach lol

I was rooting for Lady Gaga for album of the year, but honestly, Taylor Swift has earned everything she's gotten. She came out of nowhere as a country artist and was able to cross over to the pop charts and become a huge success. Just because she sings songs about things relevant to younger kids or teens doesn't mean she's not a talented girl. So she doesn't reach some of the "older" generation [even though I do like her :p], the same could be said about other artists.
