Do you prefer Donna Troy or Cassandra Sandsmark a.k.a. Drusilla?
I grew up with Donna Troy as the original Wonder Girl and member of the revamped "New Teen Titans" which were (at the time) DC's answer to Claremont's Uncanny X-men. Even as a little girl, It was so OBVIOUS to me that she HAD to be Wonder Woman's little sister or at least "another amazon" but her history at that time did not bear that out. it was AMAZING to me that no one...not even WONDER WOMAN herself seemed to "realize" the more than slight resemblance and it was written that she patterned herself after WW because WW had saved her from a burning building as a small child.
Well many years later (and through several absurd plot twists and horrible code name change to "Troia" ) the writers FINALLY got it write and cleaned up her history and she's now in fact Wonder Woman's sister and fellow amazon who has taken her place along side Diana and Hippolyta.
During that time, another young girl was rising up to become Wonder Girl II, Cassie Sandsmark, daughter of Helene Sandsmark and ZEUS, who seemed to a sort of replacement for Vanessa Kapatelis, who was once Wonder Woman's "kid sister" and the daughter of Wonder Woman's dear friend Julia. Vanessa has become the latest Silver Swan and Cassie and her mother Helen seemed to replace Vanessa and Julia following WW's move to Gateway City.
Unlike Donna Troy who is Diana's sister, Cassie initially gained her powers from magickal greek artifacts but being that she's the daughter of Zeus he soon grants her a boon of powers similar to Wonder Woman's but HER lasso discharges Zeus' lightning. She was given the code name "Wonder Girl" by Donna Troy as a blessing to take on that mantle after Donna.
Cassie has been a member of Teen Titans and Young Justice.
I initially resisted her at first in her earliest appearences (especially with that awfull black wig and those goggles she used to wear as her 'disguise' but as she eventually adopt her own far more glamorous and somewhat sporty look, I warmed up to her. I also like the fact that she uses "Drusilla" (the name of Wonder Girl from the classic Wonder Woman TV series) as her disguise identity.
Following the "Amazons Attack" storyline, she had her own spotlight limited series and that was when I REALLY got into her.
Which "Wonder Girl" do you prefer?
