Kinda bored tonight, so I figured I'd start a new topic. Where did everyone go to college? What kind of degrees do you have? I know we have a lot of working professionals here, so what was your major and do your careers coincide with what you studied? Did you have any notable experiences in college and do you think that the investment was worth it?
I'll see what other people say, then I'll provide my info and two cents. :hehe2:

I have a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown and a MA in Film and Business from NYU.
Yes, the investment is worth it as far as developing as a human being, but I don't use my education per se in my job.

I did my first two years @ Macomb Community College (to save money) and my last two @ Oakland University. have my BFA in Fine Arts/Fashion & Art. I had aspirations of becoming a buyer or working in an museum...but then things happened and changed...and I've been working in civil service (government) for a few years now. I havent given up...i just had to take a detour lol.
I believe the investment is worth it, ESPECIALLY if/when you get to USE your degree.

Nice to see that we have so many educated professionals with impressive credentials here (especially Morningstar--Georgetown and NYU, wow!).
Looks like it's my turn. I did my undergraduate work at the University of Hawaii and have B.A.s in English, Journalism, and History (yes, I'm a humanities multidisciplinarian). I finished with Highest Honors after producing a 400-page thesis that is currently in the editing process (soon to be published by a well-known press, though I can't say much more about it at the moment). My graduate work was done at Washington State University, where I earned by M.A. in English. In the fall, I'll be at Brown University to finish off my academic career, securing a second M.A. in American Civilization (otherwise known as American Studies at other institutions, with an emphasis in cultural criticism and analysis) and a Ph.D. over the next five years.
Most of my degrees have helped me, as I'm currently a college lecturer/professor and work as an administrative specialist for the State of Hawaii. For the interested, I've taught introductory composition (with a focus on political rhetoric), a literature survey course, a course on Victorian literature, a course on theory (Foucault, Said, Butler, etc.), and numerous other GenEd classes with a primary focus on the history of the ancient world. As a scholar, I specialize in visual culture and rhetoric, primarily with regard to mediums like comics and graphic novels, video games, film, and wartime propaganda (especially WWII). In the next year, I'll be teaching a course on comics at Brown University, along with one on zombie and apocalypse narratives in popular culture.

OK, that is cool as all hell.
I do hope you have your students look at the classical inspirations for the Incredible Hulk and the many statements, both political and social, that have been made using this character over the years.
Wonder why I am so interested...lol.

I have my Bachelor's in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the University of Nevada, Reno.
I also have a certificate in Fashion Merchandising from Western Nevada College.
I want to be an author so right now I am writing and using my certificate in my current job. Hopefully one of these days I will sell something and not have to work retail.
I am thinking of going back for something different. I like school and now I am just not sure about my life I am thinking I might want to go to Film School but haven't checked too much into it.
