The original thread had reached the posting limit, so it was time to start a new one :)
2 weeks ago, I saw Death Race. The movie had Tyrese and Joan Allen among other stars in it and it wasnt as bad or cliched as i thought it would be. I was expecting some boring retread movie about fast cars and trampy women ala' the last few "Fast and Furious" sequels, but this movie actually had a nice storyline with clever twists and turns and some truly eye popping action sequences.
Joan Allen gets major kudos from me for playing an icy, glamorous, sociopathic, ball busting ice bitch who is the warden of a state of the art maximum security prison and presides over these "death races". Tyrese is so good at being bad and definately plays his role to the utmost.
its a really good movie.

my last movie was battle of britain (1969) i watched it two days ago. lots of good action, the dogfight stuff is great looking for the time and it has some great english actors.
looking at the film i think it must have been one of the dog fight films that inspired the editing of a new hope. fast editing and cool radio chatter [inluding "red squadron report in"]

Righteous Kill with De Niro and Pacino. good movie, average script but it was really carried by the strength of the two leads.

I watched Die Hard again when it was on TNT the other night. It just reminded me that Alan Rickman is an acting god, and that they should have resurrected him for every single one of the sequels.

I just re-watched Black Hawk Down. I read the book recently and wanted to see how close it followed the actual events. Pretty close actually, but the book offered more details about the men, their training, their injuries, and the aftermath.
I also recently saw Deception with Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, and Michelle Williams. It was a pretty good combination of thriller/drama with a little sex thrown in for good measure.

Tropic Thunder: The movie was okay, and there were some definite funny parts, but I have to say Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise totally made this movie for me. They were hysterical in it.
House Bunny: One word: Lame.

I saw Wanted and this movie rocked! I'm glad I bought it on DVD. The action sequences were intense and thrilling. But the main protagonist is such a little bitch and he's not exactly pretty to look at lol. I believe he was picked because he was the runt of the litter. Either way I watched this twice because I really enjoyed the plot, twists, and surprises. I also really liked how Fox died in the end. That was AWESOME how she honored the code by killing the others and herself. While I hate when characters die I thought her death sequence rocked for a character.
I also saw Get Smart which I thought was funny. I never saw the television show. But this movie had me laughing so hard lol. One of my favorite scenes was the mother driving with her son in the backseat. "Mom! Mom! Look!" His mom's on the phone, "Charlie! Charlie! Charlie! Don't you see how annoying that is!" LOL! I thought that was great. This movie pokes fun at the James Bond films which I loved. It's a funny movie so I enjoyed it.
Finally, I saw Hancock, this movie was different. Will Smith did a great job in it. I liked the twist of plot in the middle of the film and at the end. I did feel sorry for him a few times. It was a different movie I felt and entertaining. It wasn't great but it wasn't awful.

^^ My favorite scene in Get Smart was when they were speeding through the golf course and crashed into the swordfish. And Steve Carrel's character was like "Are you thinking what i'm thinking?" And Alan Arkin's character was like "If you're thinking: 'holy shit! holy shit! I almost got impaled by a swordfish' then yes" or something along those lines. I couldn't stop laughing at the way he said that.

LOL! That was a good scene too! They had a few great scenes in the movie that I loved.
I liked the part where Steve's character was walking through the room and he touches the beads and they all fall to the floor loudly. So he steps away to explore the room when the men come in and fall on them and he goes, "I did that!" :hehe2:

"An American Haunting" with Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland. I'll watch ANYTHING starring Sissy ("Carrie") Spacek, and while this movie was dark, and indeed haunting...it was also based on true events that took place in 19th century america in TENNESSEE of all places. Sad to say that those events involved a father doing something UNTHINKABLE to his daughter

Australia - This was one long ass movie. I liked the last the last 45 minutes of it, but besides that I thought it was way too drawn out. I wouldn't watch it again, even though Hugh Jackman was DAMN FINE in it. With his thick Australian accent...*drool* now that's the type of man I need to be with. :D

Me too - saw it Thursday. My friends who worked on it weren't wrong when they said it was horrible. It is SO poorly made. I pray the budget was lower on it than I think it was. If Robert Pattinson wasn't hot it would have been in such trouble. I did enjoy it in the end but it could have been so much better. Poor acting, poor casting, poor cinematography. Though I did hear that a DP I worked with before has been hired for the sequel, so it should look MUCH better.

See, I was kinda disappointed in the Dead Like Me movie.... I was a big fan of the series and it just seemed like the movie was lacking that "kick" that the series had..... The movie was OK, but IMHO nothing compared to how good the series was.
I wated Madea Goes to Jail over the weekend..... it was about what I expected it to be.... which wasn't all that much..lol Though I have to admit it did have its moments, but overall wasn't that unique as a movie.
I saw previews for that Haunting in Connecticut movie and it looks really good... can't wait to see it!

So Myself and a few friends decided we wanted to see a terrible movie and went to catch Dragon Ball: Evolution. Calling this movie bad would be an insult to campy bad movies. This was an abomination put to film and served to anime fans everywhere. some quotes from myself and my friends on this movie include "i could have made a better movie if i gave myself a concussion with the original manga," "could only be worst if a new level of hell came into being after viewing it" and my personal favorite "Good if only for the fact that you know everyone involved in it will pay for it by having their careers die painfully" needless to say if you get a copy of this from me for Christmas, its cause i hate you. However everyone please watch it for yourself :)

I saw Observe and Report a few days ago. It was really funny in the beginning but walked a weird line of seriousness/dark humor in the middle to end and it really just fell short for me.
The drunk mother was the highlight of the movie for me and Anna Faris' drunk dinner date was good but the movie was really lacking.. it was kind of a let down..
I ALSO saw Haunting in Connecticut and it was just AWFUL. I was really surprised Virginia Madsen was in such a hot flaming piece of crap. Do not waste your money on it.. It's not scary in the slightest and I felt like I should get my money back because it was no better than a straight to DVD release.

17 Again - Such a cute movie. The concept isn't that groundbreaking [13 Going on 30 or Big anyone?], but it was a great family movie. Plus, Zac Efron is just gorgeous to look at in it. I mean seriously...he's just too pretty to even be real LOL.

I saw a few films since April, they are as follows:
1.) Fast & Furious - I was really EXCITED to see this film because I felt it was going to be a badass sequel with all of the main stars of the first films. However, I was sorely disappointed for the following reasons / spoilers:
A.) Letty is killed within the first ten minutes of the film. She's murdered and Dominic and Brian join forces to take down her killer. Which in return turns into a revenge film.
B.) None of the first cast are mentioned such as Leon (who was unharmed in the first film), Vince (who was shot in the first film and flown to a hospital), and Jesse (who was shot down by Tran). I believe they are most likely dead because in the film Dominic left Letty to keep her alive.
C.) I'm an avid fan of action but it seemed like they were trying TOO hard here!
D.) The ending was actually cool when Dominic is sentenced to prison and Brian, Mia, and other members of the team break him out.
Obviously, there will be a fifth film but I was left feeling with it was just "okay" not the kind of movie I wanted because of what I mentioned above.
2.) Fighting - My girls and I mainly went to see this film because Channing Tatum was shirtless and so was Brian White. Let me just say Brian White had a nice looking body! Lol. But the film was basically about fighting and earning money for it. There weren't really any twists or turns to it. Just a basic plot and a slight romance for Channing's character. But it wasn't awful either.
3.) Obsessed - My girls and I saw this too and I really liked it! Obviously, it's about a white woman being obsessed with a black man whose married and has a family. I would compare it to fatal attraction. Beyonce stepped up in this film and laid the smack down lol. Even the women in the movie theater were like "get that bitch" lol. It definitely has a few twists and turns but I'd buy it on dvd.
4.) X-Men Origins: Wolverine - I originally was going to wait for this film on DVD. But I gave in because Ryan Reynolds was in it and I really like him. Plus I've always liked the character Dead Pool. Obviously, this movie is a prequel to the three other X-Men films. What I liked about this film was the background and the introduction to characters we haven't seen like Gambit, The Blob, and Dead Pool. There was a hidden scene AFTER the movie and I will reveal the following for those who wish to know later on. Lot's of action, compelling emotion, and just questions we've all wanted answered. I never really read the comics so I can't comment how closely they followed the course of events. Here is what I thought was cool:
A.) The hidden scene at the end of the credits was Dead Pool reaching for his decapitated head after his fight with Wolverine and Victor Creed.
B.) Kayla Silverfox does not die by the hands of Victor Creed. It's meant to believe that which motivates Logan to turn to William Striker and prompts the Weapon X program. But she does die at the end of the film from being shot.
C.) Wolverine was a mutant as a child, something I didn't realize. I assumed it would hit at puberty. He also murders his own father in a fit of rage.
D.) A few characters die at the hands of Victor. John Wraith is one of them. And Chris Bradly is the other one.
I didn't have high expectations for this film but I really loved it. More so than the other X-Men films. Lot's of twists and turns and a few surprises.

Star Trek - Absolutely, 100%, LOVED this movie. My dad got me into Next Generation reruns when I was a kid, and I grew up with Voyager, so i've been a fan of the Star Trek Franchise for years but I never truly got into the original series. But this film was just fantastic--you don't even have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy it.
The movie completely rejuvenated the Star Trek brand; paying tribute and homeage to the original series with SPOT ON casting [Spock was BRILLIANTLY played by Zachary Quinto, and Chris Pine's Kirk was hilarious, edgy, and gorgeous lol] and catch phrases, but also allowed a new generation of viewers to get the basics of how it all started and reel them into the Trek phenomenon. I think in these circumstances, a prequal [which I know a lot of you aren't fans of] was a brilliant move on the franchises' because it opens up this world to people who may not have liked it or known about it before, and keeps the Star Trek brand alive. I for one and more than ecstatic about that. :D
I truly TRULY hope that they make a sequal to this movie and continue forward with this cast. Everyone was amazing. The storyline was very creative. The introduction of all the main crew members was great. The effects were CRAZY. Overall, I just loved it.

Julie/Julia- saw it today with my friend Britiny. Meryl Streep is one of my favorite actresses and I'll watch her in anything she's apart of. This movie was very cute and the bridge between Julie Powell of the present and Julia Child of the past was very seamless in its portrayal.

I saw the ORIGINAL, made by wes craven...its very grainy and low budget in appearence but the themes of "loss of innocence", the "danger of going somewhere with your morally corrupt friend" and being an "innocent in a big city" etc are all there. the girls' ordeal is mentally draining to watch and then they try to escape for their lives in the forest...the one girl's murder was very jarring as well.
I was GLAD to see the parents take revenge on those bastards! I didnt see the remake...but I'll probably rent it since you've reminded me of it now.

I saw The Time Traveler's Wife.. In the words of Farrah...
-------> NEXT!
The book is very beautifully written and so much more in depth. The movie had a LOT of backstory to work with and it simply just didn't deal with it at all. There are chapters and chapters of things just left out. Not to mention the fact that the book actually leads you to understand how this whole time traveling thing works. The movie almost IGNORES the mechanics..
I cannot stress enough.. GO READ THE BOOK, skip the movie.

Sunshine Cleaning was very good! I agree it didn't sit in theatres very long. I only managed to catch it because my little sister works at AMC and she told me right before it was going to be discontinued.
Anyway, last movie I saw: Adventureland.
I have to admit, I wasn't very enthused to see it because it was marketed as from the people who brought Superbad. Don't get me wrong, Superbad had its high points, but that's not to say I wanted to watch another movie just like it, you know? Anyway, I finally watched Adventureland and was surprised to REALLY like it. It wasn't ANYTHING like Superbad, unless you count the slightly nerdy virgin guy main character looking for love. It actually had a LOT of depth to it, including a supporting cast that wasn't just there for shits and giggles. there's so much more going on than just 'protagonist meets girl of his dream and grows up a little'. For the most part, each character has their own thing going on and their own motives, and its very engaging to watch them interact and really alter each others perceptions of people, love and life in general.

^ Hahahaha! Yeah that movie was frieken terrible.
I watched "Couples Retreat" last night with Vince Vaughn and I was not really impressed, it had several actors/actresses that I enjoy but I felt like it just really LACKED.
It was cute but I felt like none of those couples should have stayed together in the end, and that they were brought back together by some ridiculous or miniscule reason. Boo.
But by the way, Kristin Davis(Brooke from MP and Charlotte from SATC) was the oldest woman in that movie and her body was frieken BANGING, she put the younger girls to shame.
2/5 Stars from me lol.

 there's no accounting for taste, I suppose. You think a LOT of movies are terrible, so I'm not surprised LOL. Plus I think i remember you saying you didn't like Juno, and JB was written by Diablo Cody so... there you go. Anyways... at least you gave it a try. ;)

The Karate Kid - It was a good movie, and Jaden Smith is just too adorable! He's going to be a heart breaker when he's older lol. However the movie was 2 hours and 40 minutes...they could have easily cut it down and gotten to the whole karate tournament quicker. But aside from that, good movie.

Just saw Inception last night at 9:30. I can't understand for the life of me why they would only have 2 showings of it in one day while they have 6 showing times for Step it Up 3...
Anyway, it was fantastic! I loved it! The beginning was a bit confusing, but after the 10-minute mark, it became easier to handle. Visually stunning as well! I never really liked Leonardo DiCaprio, but after seeing movies like The Departed and Aviator, it's like, ok, this guy's bringing it. He definitely deserves consideration for a nomination here.

I agree Black Swan was awesome! Best movie of the year IMO with True Grit second. I thought The Social Network was very good but is overrated--it's not a top 5 movie. Last thing I saw was The Green Hornet. It was fun enough to watch once, but I won't be buying the DVD. Even suspending disbelief there was too much of it that was stupid. Rabbit Hole was a decent movie. The acting was phenomenal on Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckarts part, but the storyline dragged. And I agree about Black Swan, it was a really good movie! Natalie Portman was great it in.

Zombieland & Black Swan. I kept thinking, from what i heard that Black Swan would be something like "Black Widow" (very old school movie w/ Teresa Russell) and I was curious to see if Natalie Portman could do something other than "sweet" or "fragile". It wasnt as deep as I was hoping it would be (imo) but it wasnt bad.
and Zombieland. I'd seen bits and pieces here and there, but to see the whole film? yes I will admit it was VERY funny to me. "Tallahassee's" obsession w/ Bill Murray, who is pretending to be a zombie in his own mansion to survive? LOL and "zombie kill of the week goes to sister cynthia knickerbocker!" LMAO @ her signaling a piano to be dropped down on the zombie chasing her!!! :haha:
so yes, Zombieland is a nice new addition to my home movie collection.
as for Black Swan? not bad...but not quite what I was hoping for either.

Just returned from seeing Scre4m and I must say it was very well done but I had high hopes since the original collaborators- Wes Craven & Kevin Williamson were involved. The core 3 (Sidney, Gale & Dewey) and their characters showed growth but still remained relevant. Hayden Panettiere along w/ Emma Roberts were excellent as the new comers. One HELL of a twist that even I couldnt see & the film definately gave the women a chance to shine. Sidney & Gale are still the baddest bitches of that franchise. And one of the messages of the film? a nice solid FUCK YOU to all remakes and the people who accept them as "good" LOL!
Bonus (players of the Six will appreciate- LUCY HALE [the current 'alternate' Firebird] appears in the film )
overall- 8/10

I saw Scream 4 on Friday and I really enjoyed it. Obviously it wasn't scary by any means, but it stayed true to the Scream franchise and was a lot of fun. I think it was by far better than the 3rd Scream, which is saying a lot since it's been 10 years between the 2. I freakin' LOVED Gale in this movie. She was badass as usual, and Sidney was great too! I like how she was all like "fuck being the damsel in distress, i'm gonna kick a mother fuckers ass" LOL.

Sidney definately showed herself to be a seasoned survivor in this film and true to the "final girl" phenomena of horror movies that you dont see in TODAY'S "horror films". She was the last in a great line (Jamie Lee Curtis' "Laurie Strode", Heather Langenkamp's "Nancy Thompson" etc)

Jill was a SAVAGE little girl wasnt she!? to be as skinny as she was...she definately was vicious.

While I was in Detroit, i saw "Jumping the broom" w/ Angela Bassett @ the behest of a girlfriend of mine. we went to some theatre in Grosse Pointe that wasnt there while I was living there before.
I had no idea what to expect & I'm not a fan of T.D. Jakes (I think he's a chauvanist pig & a religious bigot) but i AM a fan of Angela Bassett. After seeing it, I was reminded that Angela Bassett is truly high caliber actress & its SAD that she is overlooked by mainstream hollywood both for movie roles & recognition. Jumping the broom tells a good story, it doesnt move too slow or fast & its overall nicely done. Loretta Devine also turned in a great performance as well. Both she & Angela should be used in more films. Their talent is criminally overlooked.
I still wanna know WHY Angela Bassett wasnt offered (or turned down) the role of STORM in the X-men films. If ever there was PERFECT casting...that wouldve been an example.
Black King

speaking of Angela Bassett she was busy being Amanda Waller in the Green Lantern movie which wasn't bad but also wasn't great
Also saw Transformers - Dark Side of the Moon and that was the perfect summer movie, lots of action, good comedy, and the robots had some great acting at least (better then most of the people in it. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was so stiff in this movie one reviewer said she made Megan Fox look like Dame Judi Dench)
Also finally checked out X-men First Class which was good, if not strange. it was a great movie but the unfit in X-men continuity will only bother comic fans. Also who would have guess Kevin Bacon would make a great Shaw?

I saw 'The Muppets' today.
It was very cute! Of course my fav muppet is Miss Piggy ;)
Amy Adams was very cute as "Mary" & the overall movie had a cheery feel. There were a few chuckle inducing moments as well as a few cheesy moments (the moments where the human characters broke out into dramatic dance numbers to express their thought in a given scene lol) but the muppets were far more tame in this movie than they were in "Muppets take Manhattan" or even the classic 'Muppet Show' on TV.
Overall I'd say [again] very cute film.
Saw 50/50 a few weeks ago, really liked the whole feel of the movie, really funny, but still it almost brought a tear to my eyes at one point and i was really rooting for Levitt's character to pull through.
I saw Breaking Dawn. I've read all the books and Breaking Dawn is my least favourite of them all. I think the books are a lot better than the films but I've watched them all. I have to say that Breaking Dawn is my favourite of the films. The wedding was really good, I loved the humor at the start. They kept as close to the book as was possible, which I thought was good. I probably wont go and watch it again but I'll definately get the DVD.
I think its bad that we have to wait a whole year for part 2, they should have done what Harry Potter did and only leave it a few months!

I took myself to the movies last night as a treat to see "New Year's Eve". Apparently it's the follow up to "Valentine's Day", which I never saw. But to me, the film is fine as a stand alone.
It features an all star ensemble cast w/ some big names including Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfieffer, Robert DeNiro, Hillary Swank, Ashton Kutcher, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges & many more along w/ some small supporting roles/cameos by ppl like Alyssa Milano.
I thought the film did a good job weaving a tapestry w/ the different individual stories against the backdrop of New Year's Eve in NYC.
Lots of cute moments, a few chuckles & some hear warming moments.

I know it's been out a while, but I just recently saw Thor. I really enjoyed it. I was skeptical that they would be able to pull off Asgard without it being just stupid, but I felt the writers and creative effects team did an outstanding job. It's visually stunning and there are some humorous moments as well as the god of Thunder learns what it is to be mortal. I'd see it again for sure.
Saw Hodejegerne or Headhunters in english, a norwegian movie it was pretty good.

Saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last night.
Decent movie, good performances by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

Still good movie, maybe not for the faint hearted.

Just got back from seeing The Iron Lady (http://www.fandango.com/theironlady_146070/movieoverview) & it was AMAZING! Meryl Streep is truly one of our finest living actresses & she portrayed one of the powerful, controversial women in recent history w/ skill & precision that only she could!
