Am i the only one who is STOKED about the upcoming Sex & the City movie!?!

Its nationwide release is May 30th and I will be there with my pre purchased ticket, ready to rush inside and watch

It's been a long time coming, this movie and I just know it's going to be GREAT!

In addition to the core cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, Chris Noth aka "Big" is returning and American Idol runner up/Academy award winning Jennifer Hudson is cast in a plum role as "Carrie"'s assistant in the film.

So ladies AND gentlemen? how many of YOU will be having SEX the last weekend of may? :D

Well i'm certainly game for some sex. ;)

I was actually pretty skeptical about the movie when I heard they were going to be making one, but after seeing the previews i'm really excited. I'll definitely be going opening weekend. :)

On the contrary my dear. i get enough not to NEED it from somehwere else...and on the big screen no less?

Seriously, I am skeptical as to if the movie will hav ethe intrigue and the HBO series' unique "bite".

For example, Kim Catrall is to big a star to be seen simulating oral sex now, isn't she? That sort of cutting edge "realness" gave the show it's bite on-air. I will be CURIOUS to see if they do that on the big screen., as I watch it on DVD...

I'll wait for it on DVD since I never followed the actual show. But one of the girls has the DVD set she's going to let me borrow so I can watch it. :D

I personally think it will do well! S&C has a huge following with men and women a like. The crowd wants to see something juicy and sexy, why wouldn't they? With the main cast returning that's a huge plus and they can push the limits even more if they want to or at least on the DVD that's released.

^^ LOL. I remember the first time I came across Sex and the City. I was channel surfing and I stopped on HBO to see Samantha on top of some guy, topless, and banging the hell out of him. LOL. I was like, wtf is this? Something she said during the scene made me crack up so I kept watching, and I was immediately hooked on the show there after.

EXACTLY. And I doubt that it will be THAT wild on the big screen. A typical episode could push them into PG-17 EASILY.

Dayum, I'll have to rent the DVD's from Netflix! :D LOL!

I did catch one episode and I think it was Samantha discussing masturbation and how she did it for X amount of time LOL.

early critcs reviews of the movie are favorable so far. they say that the loyal fan base of Sex & the City will not be disappointed and this movie is likely to be THE hot spot for girls and guys alike on its opening weekend. the ONE thing that some critics are saying though is that the movie seems to be too sentimental at times and not as edgy and eye popping instead at those times like the show was. the show had its emotional moments (such as Samantha battling breast cancer) but the movie should definately rely on the formula that made the show such a success.

I for one, cannot WAIT to see this film!

as for the show? one of my favorite episodes actually reunites Kim Catrall with one of her fellow cast members from her hit movie Mannequin. In that episode, actress Carole Davis ("Roxie" from Mannequin) guest stars and teaches Samantha everything she needs to know about the female orgasm, including the eye popping scene where she goes down on Samantha in the bubble bath and makes Samantha climax so hard she SQUIRTS. Samantha has a deep affair with Carole's character and even wonders if she might like to experiment with bi sexuality more often because of it.

I liked seeing the two of the reunite after all those years. Carole looked great and i loved how the show just tackled any and every sexual subject like this.

This movie is a GLAMOROUS UPPERCUT that definately strikes a blow to the male testosterone driven movie landscape ...especially in the summer which is "blockbuster" season.

It has already knocked "Indiana Jones: the kingdom of the crystal skull" out of the top spot at the box office.

I saw the movie and i have to say...it is overall VERY well done. It's fun, its engaging from start to finish, very glamorous and it reminds you how much you miss the show.

The fabulous four: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte are all looking GREAT ...but their men (with the exception of Samantha's beau) are NOT looking so great in this movie. "Big" looks OLD. Charlotte's husband is fat and Miranda's husband looks like a scrawny geek, but he sure can make love...as evidenced by two hot sex scenes between him and Miranda. Another surprise is that MIRANDA is the one with the most sex scenes in the movie....Samantha spends more time being a voyeurist on her tall, dark and handsome latino next door neighbor (monogamy SO does not suit her) and Charlotte's sex scenes are very dainty and soap opera'ish. CARRIE of course sees NO action ON SCREEN...its all "implied" lol.

The main and sub plots definately weave around each other to create a big picture...it ties up all the loose ends left by the finale of the show and adds more dimension to the charaters as INDIVIDUALS outside of their clique too.

the addition of Jennifer Hudson (of american idol and "dream girls" fame) to the cast has been widely hyped, but sadly not as much as it promised to be. her character, "Louise" is sharp, witty, very well dressed and assertive...but she comes across like a 21rst century "mammy" who has to put Carrie back on track more than anything else. All of her screen time is limited to interactions with Carrie only...you never see her with the foursome. This character shoudlve been apart of the core cast from the beginning...

The movie isnt all about fashion, women vs. men and glamor either. there's a darkness that comes through the film at times that was never seen on the show. characters go through some tremendous emotional upheavals. there's lots of inuendo, salty language of course...but they had to contain it to a point to remain an R rating...and we know the HBO show was WAY past NC-17 LOL!

The soundtrack for the movie is definately sleek and trendy too, with contributions from Janet Jackson, Fergie and Jennifer Hudson among many others.

All in all...the movie is wonderfull and it was a great way to revisit these iconic characters from a modern classic tv show.

I might go see it now - I wasn't planning on going to the theater. Though I am sorry to see Indiana Jones knocked out - my friend worked on it lol ;)

I think its about TIME that a female driven movie claimed the top spot at the box office during the summer blockbuster season.

It's not often that I feel compelled to go to the THEATRE to see a movie, with the way prices are. even with a matinee' you still get screwed at the concession counter LOL, but this was one movie that was worth the "theatre ambience".

it was exciting to see a movie where so many women of all ages and colors ....as well as gay men (and a few straight men too) gathered together.

I just saw the movie last night, and it definitely pays homage to the show. However my only critisim is that there wasn't enough Samantha for my taste. ;) She's always been my favorite so of course I would of liked her spotlighted more. But aside from that I think the movie was really cute and funny. :)

I do hope they decide to make a 2nd one.

i definately agree on Samantha. It was rather ODD to see her in the role that she made for herself (set 4 years after the show ended) but even SHE was not satisfied with the path she chose. too bad it took her nearly the entire movie to realize that LOL.

In the movie It seemed that Miranda had as much of a spotlight as Carrie where as on the show, Samantha was the one who jockeyed with Carrie for the spotlight. Miranda's sex scenes, especially the second one were rather HOT for her LOL! and who knew her scrawny ass husband could be so good in bed? :p

i liked at the end, how the movie showed them celebrating Samantha's 50th birthday and they were drinking COSMOS together and Carrie asked "why did we ever stop drinking these?" and Samantha replied "Because everyone ELSE STARTED drinking them" that was definately a nod to how many trends Sex & The City spawned.

'Sex' sells: Women give Carrie & Co. $55.7M debut
http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/nws/p/ap_logo_106.png
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer
2 hours, 42 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sarah Jessica Parker and her gal pals have not lost their sex appeal. The big-screen " Sex and the City " — reuniting Parker and TV co-stars Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon — strutted to a $55.7 million opening weekend, far exceeding Hollywood's box office expectations.

That was nearly twice the forecast by distributor Warner Bros., whose head of distribution, Dan Fellman, said he had hoped the movie might deliver a $30 million debut.

"Women power," Fellman said. "It was outstanding this weekend."

Analysts had figured Paramount's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" might stay atop the box office heap, but it slipped to second place with $46 million in its second weekend. "Indiana Jones" raised its 11-day domestic total to $216.9 million.

"Sex and the City" put up numbers never before seen for a movie aimed mainly at women, who do not tend to rush out in huge numbers for opening weekends the way males do.

"Sex and the City," released under Warner's New Line Cinema banner, had the best debut ever for an R-rated comedy, topping the $45.1 million opening of "American Pie 2."

The movie landed at No. 5 on the all-time list among R-rated films, behind "The Matrix Reloaded" ($91.8 million), "The Passion of the Christ" ($83.8 million), "300" ($70.9 million) and "Hannibal" ($58 million).

"This is a blockbuster for women. This was to women what `Indiana Jones' and `Star Wars,' let's say, are to men," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers.

The movie picks up four years after the series finale, in which Parker's Carrie Bradshaw and her Manhattan buddies left behind their randy ways to settle into monogamous relationships. In the film, they deal with family and commitment issues while still flaunting their bawdy humor and trendy sense of style.

Hollywood skeptics had doubted the commercial prospects for a movie adaptation of "Sex and the City," which ended its six-year run in 2004. Originally airing on premium cable channel HBO, the show had a loyal but limited fan base and held little appeal for young males, the backbone of the box office.

However, "Sex and the City" mania grew as the movie's release approached, with many women organizing girls-night-out parties to see it with friends on opening day Friday.

"That's why Friday was quite a frenzy," Fellman said. "There were women that came in and bought out entire theaters in advance and invited all their friends."

Women made up 85 percent of the audience on Friday, Fellman said.

The movie pulled in $26.9 million on Friday. On Saturday, however, it took a steep drop with ticket sales dwindling to $17.7 million. Most big films take in more money on Saturday than Friday, so the decline was a sign that the audience for "Sex and the City" could dry up quickly.

Still, the film was on its way to becoming a $100 million hit that could spawn more sequels.

The weekend's other new wide release, Universal's fright flick "The Strangers," debuted solidly at No. 3 with $20.7 million. It stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple terrorized by masked invaders at their vacation home.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "Sex and the City," $55.7 million.

2. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," $46 million.

3. "The Strangers," $20.7 million.

4. "Iron Man," $14 million.

5. "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," $13 million.

6. "What Happens in Vegas," $6.9 million.

7. "Baby Mama," $2.2 million.

8. "Speed Racer," $2.1 million.

9. "Made of Honor," $2 million.

10. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," $1 million.

I know this is a bit of an old thread but still. When i first heard about the sex and the city movie i got soooooo excited, i love the show and was overjoyed at a movie. Went to see it with my girlfriends on the first night and we all loved it! What more does a girly movie need, girls, giggles, romance, cocktails, naked men................. ;)
I loved it that much that i ended up seeing it a few times at the cinema and then talked my man into buying it for me when it came out (he even bought me a bar of chocolate to go with it lol). I still love it now. I have heard rumours about a second one, i hope the rumours are true because if so i will be getting all excited for that one too! :D
