LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Actor Frank Langella, who once chilled moviegoers as Count Dracula, has stepped into the role of Superman's (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2807#) boss, Perry White, in Bryan Singer's upcoming comic book adventure "Superman Returns" for Warner Bros (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2807#). Pictures.

Hugh Laurie originally was cast in the role but bowed out because of a scheduling conflict with the Fox television series on which he stars, "House."

The medical drama, on which Singer is executive producer, has proved a surprise hit and was just picked up for a second season. Laurie had not yet shot any scenes on the movie (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2807#), which began production March 21 in Australia.

In the Superman canon, White is the editor of the Daily Planet, the newspaper where the Man of Steel's alter ego, Clark Kent, works as a mild-mannered reporter.

In Singer's version, White has a son named Richard, played by James Marsden, who is Lois Lane's love interest.

Langella played Count Dracula in Universal Pictures' 1979 "Dracula." His other credits include TV's (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2807#) "Unscripted" and the features "Sweet November" and the upcoming "House of D."

Lets not forget Skeletor in "Masters Of The Universe"

'The Good Shepherd' drops in a scoop from Westlife Bryan McFadden's 25th birthday party which sounded like quite a bash:

"On Tuesday night they had McFadden's birthday do at Icebergs in Bondi. Delta Goodrem was there, a couple of radio (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050417e.php#) guys, and predominatly, Hugh Jackman and Bryan Singer. Great night - very intimate, but lively.

I didn't get a chance to talk to either Jackman or Singer, but I talked to Jackman's wife Deborah Lee-Furness for a while - who is lovely. She told me she's just done a film (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050417e.php#) with Gabriel Bryne which sounded really intriguing, and that Hugh's hoping to do some theatre back home. On a side note, Delta's been contacted about doing her second major movie (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050417e.php#).

I'll give you a great little bit on Superman though - Singer's talking to Jackman about doing an appearance in the film, from what I can gather as Jonathan Kent in flashback scenes to Clark's youth. I don't think it's signed, sealed and delivered - but upon quering what they were talking about, I was told (not by Deb, but by a notable someone else present)."

Meanwhile, shooting continued this weekend in Sydney where the first and only outside on-location scene involving actor (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050417e.php#) Brandon Routh was filmed with the young American dressed up in his Clark Kent garb and looking very Christopher Reeve-ish.

Heaps of pics from the shoot are now up at Superman Homepage (http://www.supermanhomepage.com/news.php), along with more of Kate Bosworth, James Marsden and Bryan Singer in action. Good quality shots of Routh are up at The Sunday Telegraph (hhttp://www.sundaytelegraph.news.com.au/story/0,9353,12879193-28784,00.html) and The Sunday Mail (http://www.thesundaymail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,12877456%255E903,00.html).
