According a recent article in "Sci Fi Wire", we learned why and how some changes to the legth of the screenplay are being made. For starters, JK Rowling approves of the shorter length. In a nutshell, anything that does not directly relate to Harry will be taken out from the final cut of Goblet of Fire.
It has been officially confirmed by Warner Brothers that GOF will be a single two and a half-hour film. That is the one lasting contribution that Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the third movie has left on Goblet of Fire. Cuaron convinced screen writer Steve Kloves that the film needed to be a single film, instead of two, like originally planned. Some HP fans strongly disagree with this decision and has also led to websites such as SaveGoF (http://savegof.com/), which have a petition to convince WB into splitting the book into two seperate films, or one extra long movie. In addition, Goblet of Fire is to be the most expensive movie ever made, with the current budget at over $300 million.

Robbie Coltrane has hinted that he may not re-appear as the lovable giant Hagrid in the next Harry Potter (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050411e.php#) book to be filmed, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" reports The Herald (http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/36850.html).
The actor (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050411e.php#) said recently he was unsure whether he would rejoin the Potter franchise after this year's movie (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050411e.php#), "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," saying that "It's open to negotiations . . . I know the answer and it's 'I don't know'. That's that." He declined to comment any further on the future of the role, instead praising "Goblet of Fire", although he admitted it was a very complicated plot.
Meanwhile, author JK Rowling said she would soon be taking several months off to look after her new child and will not start writing the final Potter novel for some time. She said recently "I have just completed the very last tiny edits on Half Blood Prince (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050411e.php#) so I'm now taking a few months off to concentrate on my new daughter (not to mention the old daughter and the not so old son)."
