Time to start things on the New sub-board :D

To everyone out there whats the Show that got you started on watching anime?? For me it was early morning shows of Dragon Balls and Sailor Moon. I still remember watching them at 6 in the morning on the WB before they started the early morning cartoon block. Both shows still hold a place with me after all this time. you all?

The First Seasons of Robotech and Sailor Moon altered my life forever. I also briefly was over-obssessed with Dragonball Z but eventually the repetiveness of the story arcs (big Cosmic Bad Guy, Heroes get all buff and glow with yellow spikey hair and sprout monkey tails) just basically made me drop the obsession...the same with Poke'mon.

I started by watching the original Dragon Ball series in Japanese back in 1988. Nothing beats those early episodes.

i think my first experience with Anime was Robotech back in the mid 80's. one of my childhood friends was all about it and he made me watch an episode with him. I really liked "Lisa Hayes" and so thats how i got started with Anime. But in the mid 90's right when i was about to graduate highschool, I discovered Sailor Moon. It was cute, highly stylized and i liked the symbolism with the planets and the sailor scouts.

I realized how much MORE to sailor moon there was through my best friend and HER friends who were all major sailor moon fans. The real, uncut sailor moon which featured more violence, more action, nudity, bi sexuality, gender bending, swearing etc. the Sailor Moon universe is so intriguing and once you get beyond the childish , edited fluff that was promoted by DIC studies in America, you find that Sailor Moon is actually a very good anime (and manga) to watch/read.

ahhh editing the living hell out of an anime series a proud tradition continued by 4kids entertainment :D i think its almost a universal rule that once you discover the unedited editions of shows they're usually better lol. To be honest i think some of the dubing they do is really condescending to the fans. Are children's heads going to explode if a character says rice patty instead of cookie?? Leave some stuff in let a kid experience a little part of a different culture.

I think even though Dragon Balls and Sailor Moon were my first shows what really got me into anime was the Slayers. Following the adventures of Lina Inverse and gang on the International Channel (subed not dubed) well into junior high was really what got me into anime and discovering new series

LOL Robotech/Macross is the gateway drug of anime

My first anime show as in a dubbed was Astro Boy. Followed by 8th Man and most of the rest of those early ones. My first actual anime straight from Japan was Gundam. From there the addiction grew.............I should hunt down Tomino and viciously beat him for this.............but I'll let it slide.....for now.

My first manga that I bought was Wingman by Masakazu Katsura. A friend had bought a couple of volumes of it but didn't care for them compared to the anime. I did so, I bought them and rather enjoyed them. I ended buying almost the entire series back then, in the 80s. It's very different from his most recent stuff, art plus tone. I should hunt him down and viciously beat him for getting me hooked and spending money...............but I'll let it slide.....for now.

The only J-Pop I've ever bought had an anime connection, Psy-S. It's a best of and I liked the stuff they had done on the City Hunter series, so I got it.

Other stuff like models HAVE resulted thanks to all of this stuff. Sheesh.........

i saw an episode of Astro Boy...and I thought i was hallucinating or something. It seemed so bizarre, even the sound effects were peculiar.

another anime that really launched my interest was Card Captors. I saw the American version first...but after seeing the unedited/uncut version from Japan i was definately hooked.

I barely just got into "anime" anime. I was always into the anime movies, like Spirited Away and Princess Monoke, but as for shows, i just watched a full series, my first series, called Love Hina. and I LOVED it. It was funny and addicting. Unfortunately it was only 24 episodes and I was disappointed on how the series ended, but I really liked it and its how I started to appreciate anime.

Spirited Away and Princess Monoke are both wonderful movies i loved the visual effects and the stories. I haven't caught Love Hina but i have heard good things from it. Have you tried Howl's Moving Castle?

I have seen almost all of Miyazaki's movies. My most favorite are Spirited Away, Princess Monoke, Howls Moving Castle, My Neighbor Tuturro and Kikis Delivery service.

I just started watching two new anime's. Peach Girl and Fruit Basket. Both really good. I recommend.

Heheh, a cat rarely forgets a place it likes. :xyxthumbs:

There was a newer one release a while ago, the animation was better and from what I understand, it's closer to the novels. I've yet to see all of it to date. Sooo much to watch, sooo little time. http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs42/f/2009/127/d/5/Embarressed_emoticon_by_Ebil_Rainbow_Ducky.gif
