I know someone on this board who is a BIG fan of Birds of Prey. I remember the debut of Birds of Prey, Barbara Gordon...aka the original "Bat girl" was paralyzed by the Joker and reinvented herself as the ULTIMATE superhero information source, calling herself Oracle. I have read the book occasionally but something that i DIDNT know was that my girl Power Girl was an ORIGINAL member of the team but she left after a mission went bad and lots of people were killed. She and Oracle have had a strained relationship ever sense. Black Canary has given BoP the credit and reputation it currently enjoys.
Other members include such heavy hitters as: Big Barta, Man Hunter, Huntress and Lady Black Hawk
for those who might not be familiar, get an overview HERE:

Anyone else follow this group? remember the ill fated TV show on WB? BoP have been involved in some major storylines with Batman and Wonder Woman over the past few years and i think the women that have been apart of this team are some of the best fighters DC has to offer.
I never got a chance to see the show. Should it have been cancelled, or was it on par with Smallville and just didn't find it's audience?
Barbara Gordon as Oracle is my favorite superheroine in all of comics, but what can I say? I'm a batverse whore. :D
She may be in a wheelchair but she's just as effective, if not moreso, in the war on crime. She's an invaluable resource to Batman, Nightwing and of course the Birds of Prey. Not to mention brilliant, willful and an excellent leader. Can't say enough about how much I love her.
But I haven't read more than 1 or 2 of the series way back when. Is that current roster accurate? For some reason I thought Black Canary had moved on to other things...

no it should have been canceled. It was really bad but i did manage to find a small niche audience. the Bird of Prey one of the best and most well rounded teams in the DCU. To this day i still think the best member was/is Lady Blackhawk. i'm not sure how well the book is going to survive without Gail Simone :(.

the BoP show was a BAD attempt at copying Charmed with a DC twist. PLUS it became "all about Huntress" and she wasnt that engaging of a character. It was also pretty bad when "guest star" Lori Mclaughlin aka "Black Canary" ECLIPSED the supposed "stars" of the show in terms of popularity and relevance.

the only person on that show that was worth watching was Harley Quinn and you had to wait the whole length of the season just for the actress (can't remember her name) to actually act like Harley and get in costume. The last episode was the high point of the whole thing and if i remember correctly it was a cliffhanger.
Ugh. I just caught some videos of it on youtube. Using the footage from the actual batman movies in the history recap...meh. And the costumes still look a little campy. It's so hard to pull them off without making them look cheesy.
Definitely glad the comics still around, though. :)

I am also a fan of BoP. The problem I had with the series was that it was not enough for Huntress to be like the comics, She had to be some mutant hybrid thingee that was too far afield for me, although I still liked the show overall.
Too bad Marvel doesn't have a counterpart team. It would be cool to see say, Sage manage to recruit and coordinate teams of MU women. From Darkstar to Squirrel Girl to Phoenix to She-Hulk to Ms. Marvel, that could be one hell of a team...
