Some of you ...MOST of you should at least know of Ms. Marve I. Carol Danvers, long time staple of the Avengers, ally of the X-men and one of the most powerfull earth based heros in MU. She's done a memorable stint as a minor cosmic being going by the name of Binary and her deeds as Binary included SAVING THE SUN from exploding as well as beating Gladiator the hell down. Along the way, Ms. Marvel has endured many trying situations, including being molested/raped by a demonic being, being nearly murdered by rogue, subjected to brutal experimentation by the brood and a bout with alcoholism.

Ms. Marvel I is one Marvel's most iconic female characters, and that's saying alot considering that Marvel has never groomed any one of their leading ladies to stand out the way Wonder Woman does for DC comics.

but there's ANOTHER Ms. Marvel. Sharon Ventura, a lesser known character who peaked during the '80's as a member of the Fantastic Four. She had one of MU's most tragic moments when she was attacked and...essentially gang raped by a group of men from Power Broker Inc. (captain america #331 ). She was a master athlete and martial artist, as well as possessing an exceptional level of intelligence and computer savvy that defied her "babe-a-licious" looks. She was transformed into a female "Thing" and went on to REPLACE Ben Grimm as the FF's physical power house during the late 80's and much of the 90's...serving along side the remaining original 3 members of the FF. She enjoyed a tender romantic relationship with Ben Grimm as well.

But soon, Doom came calling and ruined her life, leaving her suicidal...and there was a bitter fall out between herself and Ben. She left..horribly deformed and was not seen much more after that. When LAST shown, she was under the care of Wyatt Wingfoot, the former husband of She-hulk. She also appeared (in original human form) in a special FF story that featured all the women who were ever a member of the FF team...she seemed to not take herself too seriously saying "i cant believe anyone called me in for this"

any thoughts and opinions on these two Marvel women?

This is such a funny thing about my relationship with Marvel Comics.. I don't read comics, but support the genre, but I can listen to Farrah talk about Marvel for HOURS! and not be bored. She makes it interesting for me because I feel like if I had read comics we would have liked the same characters..

I know about Binary because Farrah is such a big fan, and she sounded really interesting.. like how she becomes Binary. I don't know she sounded really cool..

The second Ms. Marvel just sounds horribly TRAGIC! Raped and them becoming a female THING!?! how awful!

Carol Danvers has a LONG running and VERY interesting history. She enjoyed prominence in the 80's and a resurgence in the 90's but what i like is that now the writers and editors seem to realize that Ms. Marvel is powerfull character that deserves to be on the front lines and so they've revived her.

She's not BINARY anymore, but she's far more powerfull than her original Ms. Marvel incarnation from the 70's and early 80's. She's definately one of the most powerfull women on MU's earth with the POTENTIAL to INCREASE that power (a hold over from her Binary phase).

She's enjoyed such position as being a high powered Liason for the department of homland security between the government and mutants and meta humans. She's prooven herself in battle, once again being regarded as a staple of the Avengers and had her own series relaunched just a few years ago.

Carol has endured ALOT of tragedy as most of MU's powerfull women are forced to go through, but unlike her successor (Ms. Marvel II) Carol has rebounded and come back stronger each time.

One of my favorite moments was shortly after she was relieved of duty from Avengers (vol III) for her problem with alcoholism (and after she had thrashed Iron Man for outing her LOL) the avengers went on a mission to the moon, and Carol decided that she was going to CRASH the mission whether they liked it or not because it involved the Kree. She flew from the earth to the moon under her OWN power and while being DRUNK at the time prevented her from getting all the way to the moon...the way the panels were drawn...showing her grit and tenacity to "show them all" just what she could do, i thought that was awesome....but her crashing back down to earth and landing in an alley by the gutter was harsh lol.

Ms. Marvel II was a character that was just pitifull. She STARTED coming around in Fantastic Four and to watch her fight was awesome. when it came to getting the chance to beat up men, even the Thing said it was "wise to stay out of her way." she took down an army of armed soldiers BY HERSELF (before being turned into a She-Thing) AND she fought She-hulk both before and after her transformation.

Sharon was a character that left an emotional impact on the FF even after the originals all came back together, she stayed with the team, making it unofficially the "fantastic five" for a while and when Doom came calling and brutalized her, the reacations from Ben, Johnny and Invisible Woman were all very moving. if they NEVER wanted to KILL doom before...after what he did to Sharon..they were all BLOODTHIRSTY for his death after that.

She's not been seen for quite a while since going under the care of Wyatt Wingfoot but when she appeared once a couple years back she seemed to harbor a deep resentment towards the FF and then she appeared in that Marvel Knights FF special with all the other women who had ever been on the FF team including: Medusa, Crystal the Elemental, She-Hulk, Invisible Woman, Lyja the laserfist and of course Ms. Marvel II.

Is anyone beside me reading Ms. Marvel's solo series? Its the second one for her and aside from her being "pro registration" and selling out her friend Julia Carpenter aka Spider Woman II / Arachne, I have really enjoyed this book. It's so nice to see Carol back in action and at the forefront after so much of her potential and power as Binary was WASTED in the mid to late 80's.

the fact that she COULD be a Skrull pisses me off to no end though. Bendis really needs to have his chain pulled.

I was tempted to get it as I like Ms Marvel, but I'm not thrilled with what little I've seen coming out of Marvel for several years now so I passed. Busiek caused some damage in the 90s and it's nice, I guess, to see that undone (if so), but all those crossovers and the Civil War stuff has drove me away.

The only good thing about her being a Skrull would it wound mean that she never was a drunk. Otherwise, yeah, that stinks. I'll watch your butt as you throw a drink in Bendis face................I meant to say your back. :hehe2:
