according to an article i read in the detroit news yesterday, more and more people are lavishing their pets with things like "day care", health insurance, gourmet/organic foods and even massage therapy. More people in america live dogs and/or cats than live with a "significant other" these days.
I know that when it comes to my two blue eyed, seal point siamese cats....i tend to regard them as my children....i am very nurturing and protective of them and i baby talk them when i cuddle with them lol :o
so how many of you have pets? what type do you have and how long have you had them?
i have two siamese cats: tinkerbell and madonna...they are both going to be 4 years old this year and ive raised them from when they kittens. Yes..i do spoil my babies...carrying them through the house craddling them, letting them lay where ever they want, buying toys and treats for them lol.....and encouraging their naturally testy attitude with men. :D

Dogs and cats are a lot easier to find than "significant others" lmao. And they dont talk back, physically, what's not to love? haha. I'm gonna be rich :D
My currently only living pet is my half chihauhau, half small breed dog, Sparky :D He's the love of my life lmao. Going on 9 years this year, he's adorable and the white hair's just so cute on him. I baby him all the time as he's the only one that loves me lol. I miss my baby.
Deceased Pets: 1 turtle, 5 goldfish, 1 rabbit, 9 canaries, 1 cannibal canary.

I have two cats that live with My Cousin and I ;)
The first one is named Mittens, he is a Black and White Calico cat who has an extra toe on each of his front paws, making it really look like he is wearing Mittens LOL.. hence the name. My cousin got him at the SPCA. He is 8 years old so he is pretty set in his ways. We buy him all kinds of treats and stuff and then he will go and play with like a Paper Bag... He also kicks things with his feet.. sometimes he looks like Thumper from Bambi lol ;)
The next is my own little Calico Kitten named Chloe.. We originally named her Cleo but we kept accidentally calling her Chloe and it just stuck. She is just over 6 months old and is the total Southern Bell of our household. She likes to sleep on one of our shelves in the living room and everytime you walk by she will look at you with these big doe eyes and just Meow.. and when she awakes from her daily nap, she will leave my cousin's room and turn the corner and just stop and Meow several times until we pay her attention then she will jump in one of our laps and go to sleep again lol..
Oh yes I love my Cats ;) And I am definitely NOT a cat person, but they have me whipped lol.

Well, I have two cats, a male and female. And the female Mao is such a princess, she lays around the house sleeping on comforters, blankets, rugs, couches, wherever she desires. She's the Queen of the house....or so she thinks! She's a gray/black tabby with green eyes that sparkle. She's known for her attitude and her tail swaying. She's not a fan of cuddling only for five minutes and then she's gone.
My second baby is McCavity (Named after a character in the Broadway Musical Cats), he's a powerful coon cat with a heavy build and immense paws. He's covered with thick long orange coat with curly white hair on his belly. He thinks he's the king and can lay ANYWHERE, including my bed! His nail is bushy and thick and can have a tendency of knocking things over. He pretends to be a dog sleeping on his back with his paws in the air. He also enjoys rolling at your feet for attention. He hardly meows and when he does, its pathetic, LOL. For such a huge cat he has a tiny meow.
Mao is probably six or seven and Mc is four or five.
My mother has two birds, a Cocketeal (SP) whose got moodswings all day long. He's 14 and obviously that's old for his type of breed. He gets fresh and "hisses" at people inside his cage. But he can say, "here kitty kitty." But for the most part he adores his mirror while he whistles. I'm thinking he's the gay one of the pets, LMAO!
Mick, is the LOUD one who Farrah and Jess have the pleasure of always hearing when I'm on the phone with. His bellowing loud screeches are annoying and unpleasant but he's a nice bird. He's a Mitrade Connor. He's got red and green coloring and about the size of an African Gray. Mick struggles to speak but it comes out all garbled. My mother babies him, singing him to bed. When he was a baby he used to pick off his feathers. To prevent that, my mother would sing a lullaby to him.
Both our birds are in their own "bird room" filled with sunlight, blankets, and music. My mother plays classical music for them. Inside the bird room is our another pet, RALPH! He's a ball python and he's beautiful. He's from Japan so his coloring is unique, a gold with a mix of brown shades. He's 13 now and is probably three feet and he's a friendly snake. Although my friends dare not go near him. I enjoy placing him around my neck and walking outside in the summer time. Or placing him in the bathtub for a little swim. He's fed live white mice (Which Jess thinks are cute! ). He's a strong and built snake and he lives in a very spacious 50 gallon tank with heavy thick tree branches, water dish, plants, and a dark forest "house" which he lives in. Ralph is my older brother's pet but we take care of him.
As far as OUTSIDE pets we have two dear we hand feed, "Bambi" and "Faline." Bam is a large buck and obviously Fa is a doe. They are precious and sometimes bring the whole heard. Whenever I pull into my driveway they are right their standing to be fed, lol.
We also have an albino skunk who travels around, he likes chips and hand fed. Pierre is our red fox who enjoys left over meat and fruit/berries.
My family is often labeled the "Dolittle's" because of our unique ability to associate with any animal. Especially my mother and I, we fear no animal and we love all of them. I'm known to pick spiders out of the house via a book, I refuse to kill them. My mother kills spiders, lol, she says "they can overpopulate and they're gross."
We have a huge family of animals but our actual pets are two birds, two cats, and a snake. :D

Lol, i included pictures.... :D
some of you may remember the bird i had last year.... daddy recently sold her, after i left, she got really loud and obnoxious and they couldnt handle it, lol.
though i live in the dorms... and can't have any interactive pets... those are back home with the family. First up is Bear (http://www.freewebs.com/titaniazane/Bear.JPG), a chinese sharpei that i actually gave the name to... my sister tried to call him something else... but im damned stubborn, lol, i said, oh, he looks like a bear when he makes that face, and i called him bear till it stuck :D. Hes so fuckin cute, lol. He sleeps a good bit.... he's kind of lazy... but when he's active, hes rambunctious and loves to please. He's so smart too! :D we got him and Emma when they were just puppies... Emma (http://www.freewebs.com/titaniazane/Emma.JPG) was a frickin psychopath dog.... my sister loved her to death... and as it so happened.... Emma passed recently. She got hit by a car, suffered internal injuries. Elizabeth was devastated... :( One of Daddy's patients gave him two cats when she died... two HUGE cats, lol. the size that REALLY makes you ask, christ, what were you FEEDING these things? I only have a picture of Bones (http://www.freewebs.com/titaniazane/bones.JPG), who got his name because he went off in the neighborhood to be a badass cat, lol, and came back a poor anorexic looking thing a couple of weeks later, a big thing of bones, lol. as you can see in the picture... he's recovered a good deal now. We think he left to try to find his way back to his original owner... but she lives across houston... so i don't doubt he gave up on THAT and came back, lol. Hes so loving... if you sitting there watching a movie, hell come and lay up on you and purr and stuff. his sister is a good deal more plump... and she lofty and arrogant, lol. :D I call her Motormouth... because she sits at your feet and meows like crazy and then when you bend down to pick her up or pet her... she runs off. All our female pets are mentally unstable. Both the cats have a cute but annoying habit of coming up to you when you're CLEARLY working on something important, and just laying right on top of your papers like "no! pay attention to ME. :D" Gotta love em, lol.
Since i moved up here, I've gotten myself so fish... I've had them since thursday, lol. I got 3 goldfish[Natalie, dylan, and alex], 1 black moor [bubbles, hehe], and 1 plecostomus[Jacque]. :D LOL.... our animals tend to go through a period of a couple of MONTHS without names[because with seven people... we could NEVER agree on something].... so when i got the fish... i just gave them the first thing that came to mind, lest they be fish 1,2,3,4, and 5 for the duration of their short lives. :p

Well, to start off with my oldest Pet, (Although she still acts like a damn puppy), I got Tyler when I was about 5 or 6 years old, she's part black lab part pitbull, and lives with my Dad at the moment, so I get to see her everytime I go over there, he lives about 15 minutes away:nod:. She may be hella old, but when I show up at the apartment, she goes CRAZY, I mean really. She does laps around the apartment like she's running a damn marathon. She's pretty smart too, before she was potty trained as a puppy, when she used to have 'accident's' in the house - she would go into my dad's room and drag some of his dirty cloths to cover up her 'mess', since she knew she was going to be in trouble. That's my girl!
Next up, is Nikki, she's more of my mom and stepdad's pet then mine, but I still consider her mine as well. She's some sort of rare cat or something, at first she was dropped off at the pound by some random people, and then our old neighbor's (Who are still very good friends with my family) picked her up from the pound as a kitten, they really don't know 'what' she is, but they think she's some sort of rare cat (Which the name of it escapes me at the moment). She's a BEAUTIFUL grey/blue color, and when she's in direct light the tips of her hair look shock white, although she's gotten a bit chubby lately;) . We came to have her because when our neighbors moved, they had alittel boy Joshua, and I guess Nikki was jealous of him and the attention, so she kept going to the bathroom in his room and all over his crib...and then she went on their brand new leather couch. So we took her in so they didn't have to put her to sleep, and she's been alittle angel ever since ^_^. Although I'm not a Cat person at all, she's 'ok'.
Even though those are my two major Pet's, My family had ALOT of pet's all in all. My grandmother has Oreo, who got his name because he's all black except for some white on his chest and stomach, he was a Stray cat my aunt saved from freezing to death in the winter when she was little, and My grandma has kept him ever since. Then there was Snow White and Princecharming, two birds my grandma had when I was real little, Snow white flew out the window into a snowstorm and died, and Prince Charming flew outside and died as well, though those were when I was only a baby. Then there are the constant fish I keep randomly bringing home; though they always die. (My dad thinks its funny to watch his oscar eat feeder fish he gets from the pet shop...so I sometimes slip some into soda bottles and sneak them home with me:p .
Next up, my Uncle has two BEAUTIFUL husky's, Rosco (A Black and brown husky with bright blue eyes), and Nakita (A white and grey, wolf like husky who's the meanest bitch I've ever seen -_-). Since my uncle and his girlfriend broke up recently, he's going to get the dogs back from her and give me Rosco, I always 'babysit' for him, so Rosco loves me ^_^ Heh. And that's all...for now, I plan on having ton's of dogs when we move into a bigger house *nods*

I have two cats... Oreo and Kit. Oreo is three and Kit we're not really sure of.
Oreo is my baby, I got her for my 16th birthday (after begging for months to have a cat) and she's been spoiled ever since. She's got long black and white hair... the black covers most of her and the white is on her paws and down her stomach so she looks like an oreo cookie, hence the name Oreo. She sleeps with me, follows me around the house, and annoys the hell out of me when she's in heat.
Kit was a cat that roamed around where my mom's boyfriend works so one day he just decided to bring her home with him. She was scared of all of us at first, but she seemed to warm up to me pretty quickly. She sleeps constantly and loves to sleep on my lap or anywhere on me. She doesn't get along with Oreo though so when she comes around, kit runs to me to protect her.
I definitely spoil my cats. I let them sleep with me and listen to them meow as they follow me around all day.

I've never been allowed a pet :( So, no colourful stories like you guys have. The only thing I can say about pets is that I'm violently allergic to hamsters. Put me in direct exposure to them for any length of time and I can die. Sniffles and watering eyes give way to full blown flu systems, whcih leads me to an asthma attack, which leads me to not being able to breathe, which leads to the obvious... death, yep *nods* I kid you not.

I have 5 cats, 3 dogs, and a rabbit. Although now that we're moving, we're only taking two cats with us. :(
CATS:
Whiskers is 15. I've had him since I was three. He's an orange tabby.
Smokey Man is 6. He's a smoke purshan...or however you spell it. lol.
Zeus is 2. He's MY cat. :) I got him as a gift...he's a Maine Coone/Hymalaian mix. He's a sweetheart and I spoil him rotten. I hate being bias, but he's my favorite animal because he's my baby. I nursed him back to life when he was on the verge of dying. So I love him to pieces. :)
BlackJack is 4 months. He's a black and white Maine Coone. Hates people...can only touch him when he's catatonic....lol. Very strange cat.
BottleCap is also 4 months. She's BlackJack's sister. Looks exactly like BlackJack but has a pink spot on her nose. Otherwise their twins. hehe. She's the social one of the two. Loves people, and LOVES bottlecaps. Hense, her name. lol. She loves playing with them...stealing them off our water bottles, and collecting them. It's very strange. lol
DOGS:
Alice is 3. She's a Saint Bernard. Around....ohh, 130 pounds. She's pretty thin for being a Saint, but she's tall. Her head comes to my bellybutton, and i'm 5'6. She's a doll, my favorite dog. :) I love her to death.
Lucy is also 3. She's a Bearded Collie. She looks exactly like Nana from Peter Pan. She's somewhat psychotic, but nevertheless, cute.
Dixie is 6 months. She's a mini poodle. Very cute...and not with those gay poodle cuts. lol. I forbid my mom to do that to the poor dog. She looks like a cockerspainal in a way, because her hair is very fluffy. She's a sweetheart.
RABBIT:
Bunbuns is 2. My sister named him when she was little...so forgive the name. He's grey and white, and supposed to be a dwarf bunny, but when he was a baby, I gave him too many treats...and didn't know they were vitamens...and well, he is now a mutant bunny. LOL, very fat and huge. But he has such personality for a rabbit. He's awesome. :)
I did have a horse, but he was a bastard and I had to give him up. LOL. But throughout my life, i've had so many animals. I just love them....always will. I can't picture my life without animals in it. I've had around 27 dogs, 14 cats, 15 hermit crabs, a rat, a bunny, 3 hamsters, a bird, a horse, and 2 guinie pigs. LOL.
