This news just in from ComingSoon.net:

Variety confirmed today that Paramount Pictures is ending its 14-year relationship with Tom Cruise's production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. Cruise and Paula Wagner will be exiting the studio as they forge ahead with plans to create an independently financed production company. Wagner told the trade that Cruise/Wagner is in discussions with several distributors to find a home for their films, which will be self-financed.

However, Paramount apparently had reasons of its own for nixing the deal with Tom Cruise.

why is Tom Cruise meeting with UN ambassadors about Scientology?

this guy needs to go sit his ass down somewhere.

according to a poll among women now, he is no longer one of the "sexiest men"...but no he's considered one of the most "SEXIST" men. his treatment of Katie Holmes, his attacks on Brooke Shields, and his overall arrogance.

his last movie (Mission Impossible III) sucked and didnt even do well at the box office.

Bwhaha. I find this funny. I used to love Tom Cruise a few years back, but now he's just stupid. Granted I still loved him in MI3, but him as a person, not so much.

I heard that his sex appeal to woman dropped 45% and his hate went up 100% on some entertainment show. He had a good thing going and he screwed it up. IDIOT!

What are the reasons of Paramount for "nixing the deal"? The link given doesn't say much if anything. My guess is his personal life, but I don't get why would that be a concern to Paramount, after all it is 'personal'.

Your personal life tends not to be so personal when you share it with the rest of the world (see jumping up and down on Oprah's couch, or bitching out poor Brooke Shields). And when you're a celebrity in the US, you *have* no personal life. The press *owns* you, you can't keep *anything* a secret from them. Seriously. Just ask Bill Clinton ;)

I don't blame Paramount Tom Cruise is BAD publicity. He tries too hard some of you already provided examples of that (jumping on the couch and the Ms. Shields).

Back in the late 80's and early 90's I thought Tom was sexy especially in Cocktail and Top Gun. I especially enjoyed him in the first mission impossible.

But, lately its like the guy is having a Mid Life Crisis with his antics. I think he's desperate to keep his acting career afloat he'll do whatever.

However, compared to older actors such as Sean Connery, Jack Nickelson, etc. Tom is dropping out of the spotlight. He's pushing his beliefs TOO passionately.

And I agree with Farrah, the guy needs to sit his ass down. I can't stand hearing about him.

Tom Cruise is trying to shove Scientology down the public's throat. he's meeting with UN ambassadors and basically blabbing to anyone who will listen. not only that, but he went on a VERY unsympathetic tyraid against Brooke Shields about her choosing to use medication for post partum depression. first of all..NO MAN should be telling a woman how to handle her pre/post pregnancy issues, SECONDLY no one CARES about his or "scientology's" position precription medication.

his box office clout is fading (The Last Samaurai bombed, as did Mission Impossible III) and he's become very overbearing and agressive.

Paramount fired him because he was no longer the box office draw he once was, AND because the wife of the head chair of paramount had communicated to her husband that Tom Cruise was an insult and offense to female fans nationwide.

I can't argue the first one because it is a financial situation and not my own, but how is Tom Cruise an insult and offense to female fans nationwide?

The Last Samurai made 111,054,195 dollars and remaned in the top 10 for 7 weeks. Granted, it's not the BEST in the world but any time a movie breaks the HUNDRED MILLION dollar mark it's NOT a bomb. I don't have the dvd sales numbers and don't particularly feel like looking them up but I'm pretty sure it's made good money on DVD as well. And with a rating of 67% of rotten tomates it means nearly 3/4 of reviewers gave the movie a positive review. Doesn't sound like a bomb to me.

Mission Impossible 3 made 133,382,309 MILLION dollars, spent two weeks at number one and seven in the top 10, and recieved a 71% on rotten tomatoes. Again, 3/4 reviewers gave the movie a positive review and it broke the HUNDRED MILLION dollar mark. MI:3 by no means bombed.

Tom Cruise still has PLENTY of clout, everyone's just jumping on the I hate Tom bandwagon. Do I agree with what he does and says all the time? Nope. Do I care though? Not a damned bit. If he makes a good movie, he makes a good movie. I'm not going to can it based on his personal life.

Sino, those number sound good, but think about this.
I have read many people on this site and at MD trash the Hulk movie. Many said it sucked. It has been actually described as unsuccessful.
It grossed more than MI3 and Last Samurai COMBINED (about $250M). Whenever a $20 million actor has a movie that makes ONLY 100 mil, that is a major league bomb.Considering the co-stars and the budgets for those films, the movies' take had to be no better than break-even. They weren't flops in the OVERALL sense, but this isn't Spike Lee making "She's Gotta Have It" for 25 grand either.
In the end, Cruise's nuttiness is hurting the bottom line and he has become a caricature to large segments of the country. That hurts his profitability and the fact that he made the post-partem depression remarks marked him with a significant demograohic (women). You had better be damn good when you piss off more than 50% of the population.

That actually helps my point Ramp, I LIKED Hulk and for years now have been saying that people simply jumped on the Hulk sucked band wagon. The majority of Hulk reviews were good and it made good money, which is why I've always thought it was just "in" at the time to hate the movie. Same is right now its "in" to hate Tom. Like I said, no hundred million grossing movie is a flop.

On The Hulk movie we agree completely. I liked it ands I believe the numbers have made sure that it will have a sequel (thank GOD!!!). As for Cruise, it is a bit different as he is a person, not a movie. He may weather this, but oinly time will tell. As for liking or disliking him, he just seems not that fun anymore and I was not a big fan to begin with.
The truth is his problems now will show whether his support was simply wide or wide AND deep with loyal fans. So far the jury is out...
