View Full Version : If you could fly

Over the course of many conversations about superheros, I have noticed alot of people would like the power to fly. Not in all cases but the majority of them. If you could have the power to fly like any comic character and this power is purely for the sake of flying, what power or how would you want to fly? What would make you pick that power, would you like to fly under your own power to feel the wind on your face, would you like to fly in a telekinetic field so you can travel as fast as your mind projects you and not have your skin peel off? Would you like to be able to fly in space?
Personally I would like to fly like Superman, I would love to be able to fly under my own power. Feeling the wind on my face as I zip by though the sky. I would love to be able to fly in space though without actually having to hold my breath.

I would take flying ala' Binary/Warbird. She flies under her own power and can EASILY withstand the rigors of wind friction. She can also fly through outerSPACE unaided (superman cannot :D) at high speeds...both in her Binary AND Warbird manifestations....and while in the form of Binary she could achieve light speed.

I would love to be able to leave this dust ball ande be welcomed amongst the stars away from the narrow perceptions of Mankind. - Think Hyperion when he held his hand over the planet making Earth seem so small as he was that far away.
However my method of flying would be akin to the DBZ characters Goku and Vegeta. They possess energy (ki) which they can channel underneath them and it propels them forward. The speed and distance that they can fly is based on their power level the harder they train and stronger they become the further and faster they can fly. I like the idea of this because this theory gives will always leave me something to achieve.

I never really wanted the power to fly - I would rather be able to teleport. So I guess if I had to choose I'd be able to move at the speed of light so that it appeared that I could move from one place to another instantly.

I would go with Angel's flying style. Always wanted to have wings and why not cool angelic wings like his. Never was to crazy about flying into outer space. Would love to know how it feels like flying like a bird, flappin those wings.

would you prefer the greater dexterity and control of "Archangels" metal wings[which DID allow him to fly in space if it was necessary]...or the purity and angelic factor of "Angel's" natural wings?

As cool as those metal wings would look i still will go for the purity and angelic factor (as u put it) of Angel's natural wings. i always loved to have those every since i saw them on Angel and on Travolta in the movie Micheal. The white feathers appeal to me more. Maybe i just want to feel the wind between my feathers...

Would anyone out there like to use something else to fly rather than your own power? For example the Silver Surfer: He usings a mentally controlled virtually indestructable surfboard to well surf the cosmos. Or like a green lantern with a powerring that allows you to fly under your own will power?

Well If I had to go with an outside method of flying it would have to be a Mjlonir style Staff or Sword that could double up as my Lightsaber style weapon...

I would want to fly like Rogue does after she got Ms. Marvel’s powers…though I feel bad for Carol Danvers I still like Rogue more because she was AWESOME when she flew up in the air to kick big robots in the face. Wow. That rocks. When she first absorbed the powers she had sucky control and that made me laugh. Back onto the subject, I would fly like Rogue [after STEALING Ms. Marvel's Powers] or Ms. Marvel [used to] because they can go where they want to go and if they want to get away from sexy Gambit for the night they can...but if I had Gambit I certainly wouldn't want to get away...

To be honest, a board like the Surfer's would be the way to go. It has an infinite amount of energy, is virtually indestructible, and follows all mental commands; what's not to like? It would be transport, a weapon, a shield, and still highly cool for actual surfing on! :) Plus, the fact that it can access hyperspace, and cruise along the universe faster than lightspeed would be incredibly handy for today's modern traveller...:p

I agree with Vil completely. ;) :D
I'd like to fly like Superman, if for no other reason than I think it would be difficult for me to fly striking any other pose. It's just too ingrained. lol :)

I would love to fly under my own power, if for nothing more than to get away everyone.
But if I had to choose I would pick Cannonball's flight. That way if something decided to get in my way, it would be history. Or if I just didn't feel like turning, I could plow through a building.:D

The Silver Surfer is the way to go! I would use a snowboard instead with a stylish outfit.

I would like to fly like Spider does. Well more like flip and spin and wall crawl but it's virtually similar. If it does have to be flying I would have to go with magneto style flying by reversing the polarity of gravity or something like that.

Yes yes. *rolls eyes* Those WOULD be great reasons to fly, but who would you want to fly like? Nightcrawler? Wait-Nightcrawler doesn’t fly. *smacks herself in the head* Ummm…perhaps Storm or something. Is it just me, or do more women characters fly then men? Does Batman fly? Thinking of who flies is going to bother me all day now…

Did you just giggle? *stares in shock* Anyway…out of MARVEL character it seems that mostly the women fly and the men are extremely strong. Hey-what about The Human Torch? Adam, you could fly like The Human Torch. That way you can be on fire and I can use your flame to burn leaves in the Autumn and stuff. Cool.
